Tweens are a wholly new phenomenon for me at Christmas. Now that my boys are 8 & 10, it’s no longer just about having lots of plastic under the tree. Or the loudest, noisiest toys you can find with flashing lights that seem to eat batteries (thankfully).
But instead, they are hedging their bets as to whether Santa exists. Lots of items on their wish list to Santa (Yes I said they were hedging their bets!) are getting smaller but more expensive.

I’m not sure if I believe in ‘must-have’ toys. Every child seems to be different, like different things and as an individual has their own interests, so hopefully, on this list, there is a gift idea perfect for your tween.
7 Top Toys for Over 7s (Tweens) this Christmas - Boys or Girls

Air Elite 115 Race Set Racing drone
Nikko Air and DRL (Drone Racing League) have teamed up to deliver the ultimate Drone. Both the boys have seen so many of these advertised on TV this year it’s made them want one. I can’t wait to see their faces when they open this on Christmas day. The Air Elite 115 Race Set is thankfully a highly durable design but I’m not expecting it to take long for them to become confident pilots.

Under 17s Driving Lessons
Yes, driving lessons for under 17s do exist and my boys both loved their taster session earlier this year so much they have asked Santa for more! Up to 10 years a 20-minute lesson is £19.95 and for 10-17 years a 30-minute lesson is £34.95

Plug & Play Retro Games
This tiny little box, not much bigger than a matchbox contains over 200 retro games and is also the game controller with a mini joystick. It will fit in your pocket and just needs a TV to plug into. I tested this with hubby and his mate, they loved it and played for so much longer than I thought they would. Perfect for any trips where you have a telly there is no wifi or indeed just a fun games in the house.
Despicable Me 3 - 3D Jigsaws
I didn’t even know these existed before we were asked to review a couple earlier this year. My 8yo loved them so much - watch him put one together here - he has asked Santa for the third one in the Despicable Me 3 / Minions set.

Harry Potter Playing Cards
A must and easy stocking filler for any Harry Potter fans amongst your tweens. Any a Harry Potter fan will know that 'accio' is a summoning charm used regularly throughout the Harry Potter books. You’ll often find Harry, Hermione and Ron enjoying a few leisurely turns at Patience in their downtime, and now with this magical set of Harry Potter Playing Cards, you can too!
The card set includes suits inspired by the actual Hogwarts school houses – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin, making it a perfect piece of Potter memorabilia, as well as a fun way to pass the time. Oh, and it's also ideal for card tricks too. Obviously.
Top Trumps
Who doesn’t like playing Top Trumps? My boys have lots of sets and love playing this entertaining card game. I think they’ll love this revived vintage pack, newly designed with an easy-to-carry plastic cassette case oh and it was also the winner of the 2017 Toy Shop UK Independent Toy Awards!
Tangle
Tangle is a perfect stress reliever. Essentially a therapeutic sensory toy with bumps and grooves.
Tangles have a series of curves that connect and pivot with no beginning and no end. Simply manipulate to lighten your mood. It’s going to be in little ones stocking but it may be me that plays with it most on Christmas Day!
Happy Christmas Shopping!
