What will you remember about 2017? There have been 365 days of political turmoil, tragedy and disaster and economic uncertainty, but it has also been a year that saw fab films, great music, a broadening of political understanding, and a Royal engagement.
For My Boys Club, we travelled the length and breadth of the UK, cooked vegan and vegetarian recipes, ate out at some amazing restaurants, shared giveaways with our readers, highlighted hundreds of free family events and activities in North East England and got on our soapbox too (but just a little bit).
Anyway, as we await the 2018 Winter Olympics, World Cup, and a Royal Wedding, here is our monthly highlights and most read blog posts from 2017.
JANUARY
January was all about being frugal with five ways to save money. We already did shop at Aldi & Lidl, so this was not a way for us to save more, so we thought harder andf came up with another five wasy to save.
FEBRUARY
February previewed the very first Fire & Ice event in Durham. I'm glad to see it is returning in the next February half term.
MARCH
In March we were invited to view the Beasts exhibition within Open Treasure at Durham Cathedral. It was so good that even without the Harry Potter artefacts in the beasts exhibition, Open Treasure itself is so worth a visit on its own.
APRIL
In April we headed to north-0west County Durham and discovered the delights of Keepers Cafe in Dipton. As well as serving delicious food it is just 15 minutes drive away from 5 top family attractions.
MAY
In May we took a stroll (aka pub crawl) around the Ouseburn Valley - one of the hippest areas in Newcastle, and right on our doorstep too.
JUNE
June was all about how to make banana pancakes using just two ingredients. You won't be surprised to know that one of them is banana!
JULY
In July we spent a lot of time compiling an A-Z of free family days out in North East England. But it was worth the effort as it has been our most popular post of the year.
AUGUST
August was all about a staycation and we highlighted our favourite 10 places to go in Newcastle with kids. A perfect read for anyone following Rough Guides advice and travelling to Newcastle in 2018 with kids.
SEPTEMBER
It was back to school in September and we had a roundup of five of our most favourite vegetarian family meals that we all enjoy together.
OCTOBER
We had been invited to review Warwick Castle over the summer, and in October we offered our top tips for visiting this amazing attraction.
NOVEMBER
Maybe it was the intrigue but our most read post this month was how to make an egg-free omelette. Yes, you did read that right. Find out more here!
DECEMBER
I watched Blue Planet 2 and found the series both an amazing spectacle and yet so saddening too. All of that plastic floating around the ocean, and even worse damaging the innocent wildlife, has been a reminder of the danger that our fragile world is in. It may seem to be a daunting, and sometimes impossible task to save the planet. But there are small eco-friendly things we can do to help.
Re-using plastic waste is one of these things and in this post, we I asked other parents what they do with their plastic rubbish and we came up with 15 different eco-friendly ways to reuse plastic household waste, to do our bit to help protect the future of the planet.
Well with over 105,000 page views in our very first full year of blogging has made us very thankful to all of our readers. We.ve had so many lovely days out and experiences, it has been a fab year.
Thank you and I hope you continue to enjoy reading in 2018!
