There are so many great children’s films around at the moment. So much more than when I was little. We do like to get out and about as a family during the holidays but the boys also need some downtime, to recharge those batteries and we all love a family film night with pizza and popcorn.
If you missed any of these films when they were in the cinema, then the school holidays are a great opportunity to catch up with them on DVD and watch on an HD television such as the 4K TV Panasonic.
So get the whole family comfy, slice up the pizza, open up the popcorn and it’s just like having Hollywood in your home.
Some of the recently released films we are going to watch include:
My boys loved The Lego Movie. Dare I say they thought it was awesome! So they are really looking forward to seeing the Lego Batman Movie. It’s described as featuring a cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne who must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, hile discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick. I can’t wait.
Sing
We’ve already seen this ‘hopes and dreams’ movie and the boys absolutely loved it. And so did we. If you haven’t seen it, it’s an animated movie about a city of anthropomorphic animals that enter a singing competition which consequently impacts on all their lives in ways they never imagined. I can’t wait to watch it again, snuggled up in front of our TV.
Beauty and the Beast
Just released this week this is a live action version of the animated Disney classic. One that I think the boys will love. I’m going to watch it with them anyway. With Emma Watson from Harry Potter fame that should get their attention as well the adaptation of the fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and the young woman whose love transcends fear and revulsion to cure the beast of his curse. I hope they love it.
Then there are some soon to be released:
Smurfs The Lost Village
The boys love the Smurfs so are really looking forward to this one. In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting race through the Forbidden Forest leading to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history. This one is released on DVD in August. Just wish it was out now!
And of course there are always our old favourites to watch with new versions back at the cinema:
Cars
This is over 10 years old now but still a family favourite in our house. In fact, this is a film I loved even before I had children of my own. A hot-shot race-car named Lightning McQueen gets waylaid in Radiator Springs, where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family. It is just such a lovely film and one you are not expecting when you sit down to watch a cartoon about cars. I’m looking forward to Cars 3 as much as the boys.
Despicable Me
Since first watching Despicable Me, the boys have gone on to love the Minions characters – then again who hasn’t. We have lots around the house, as toys, beakers, games etc. The film itself is about a criminal mastermind who uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for one of his grand evil schemes. However, their love profoundly changes him for the better. To be honest I think it’s the Minions that the boys love the most and are looking forward to seeing again in Despicable 3 too.
What will you be watching this summer?
