Wow, it’s the month of June already. Where have the first five months of 2017 gone?
June is a month that marks the end of Spring and the start of Summer. There are no Bank Holidays or School Holidays after the end of half-term but we do celebrate Father’s Day and the Queen’s Official Birthday, and with Summer this year beginning on the Summer Solstice on Wednesday 21 - here are 7 things to do this month, now that it is June.
Where to go with the family ...
There is both indoor and outdoor fun to be had this month. Why not head to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle to take in the Quentin Blake exhibition - the illustrator of many children's books including Roald Dahl stories - before it ends on July 8th or head over the Cumbria and discover Wild Play at Whinlatter Forest just past Keswick in The Lake District.
Where to go without kids ...
THE days are longer, the evenings are lighter and the weather is showing signs of brightening up in the UK so if you find yourself with some time on your hands without the kids then why not take a stroll around the Ouseburn, alternatively you could try out the new menu at Yo Sushi in Newcastle where you will find great food for vegetarians and meat eaters – not just people who love raw fish!
Where to eat with the kids ...
With so many family friendly restaurants these days, sometimes the problem with eating out with the kids these days is being able to choose where to go. We recently took the boys to is George's GBK in intu Eldon Square in Newcastle as we’d really enjoyed our lunch there. They loved it as much as us.
What to enjoy ...
Sometimes it good to try something a little different and I think this alcoholic Earl Grey tea from Noveltea is perfect for a sunny summer afternoon catching up with friends. Though please do drink responsibly!
What to make ...
National Vegetarian Week was last month but there are lots of great recipes over on my blog if you didn’t get round to going meat-free and you can also order meals where the right ingredients are that are delivered to your door with a Gousto recipe box.
What to watch on catch up ...
We were away last week and I have to admit that I missed a TV show that is one of my guilty pleasures. I haven't watched Holby City for that long, but if I miss it, I do try to watch it on catch-up. A spin-off from Casualty, it takes us through the lives of hospital staff, how their lives are entangled and how they deal with incidents, and the impact it has on their work and private lives. I'm not a medical professional, and I'm sure if I was I'd have a different opinion, but if you are looking for a drama-soap that has interesting story lines and a decent script and actors then give it ago.
What to listen to on streaming service ...
As it is soon to be Summer we are making the most of the last days of Spring by listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons – Spring. I love this and you can discover why we think everyone could benefit from attending a classical music concert like we did recently.
How are you going to celebrate Summer?

Quentin Blake exhibition sounds interesting - I used to love having the Roald Dahl books read to me when I was young. The covers always used to capture the imagination!
